I want a bookshelf like this!

We only have one (normal) bookshelf, coz the way the lights are arranged on the walls means that there's no space to put another. (It's a rented place so we can't rip the lights out and put them somewhere sensible like the ceiling.) So most of my books are in boxes in the cupboards in the hall :( I've gotta get them out sometime, catalogue them and re-pack them in some sort of order so I know where they are.

Hi to tyche who appears to have randomly found me :)

We like the same authors, you see... (Eddings, Weber, McCaffrey) and since I found your review of Changer of Worlds, I had to add you. :)

I have many, many bookshelves, most of which my Daddy built at one point or another. Store-bought bookshelves tend to come in two sizes: scary tall and middle, with none in the truly short range. I used to use milk crates to hold my books, sorta like cubical bookshelves, and the big plus to that was I never had to pack my books - just turn the crates so that the opening was up and put them in the car.

Hey! Someone read a review I wrote (other than the people whose friends lists I'm on, I mean)! That's cool :)

The other problem I've found with commercial bookshelves is that the gaps between the shelves are too big! I've got lots of paperbacks, and unless I stack them sideways (which is what we've done on our bookshelf) there's too much space left over. I think most bookshelves are actually designed for displaying ornaments and the occasional 'tasteful' book ;) Not meant for those people like us that actually buy and read large quantities of books.

See! I told you people would read them.
You should write more of them :P

I might do a proper one of the book I've just finished ... but I'll do it later, coz I really should do some work right now ;)

I bought a Robin bookshelf (actually, my friend ryan bought it for my birthday) from IKEA and it has so many shelves and since I used all of them it's pretty much the exact spacing for videotapes and paperbacks. :)

When we buy a place of our own we're gonna have to put a bit of thought into book shelving - I'll keep that bookshelf in mind. We buy our CD racks from Ikea already, they're called Labyrint I think, and they're cool ones that hold 440 CDs but they fit double CDs and singles (as opposed to albums I mean) without having a special section for them. We've got a third one of them that we've not put together yet, as we've filled the first two pretty much.

I've only got enough CD's to fill one of them ;)

Well you are about 5 years behind us - so plenty of time to catch up!

I've got a nice one in my room at my parent's house where the shelves are about the right height - just tall enough that most larger small books (that is, larger trade paperbacks) just barely fit on the shelf, which means there isn't a lot of wasted space.

Of course, the books are still stacked two-deep on each shelf :)
